The Defense of the Real Madrid Champions League ends with a 2-1 herd defeat in Spain by Arsenal, who claims a aggregate victory of 5-1.

The Arsenal has defeated the Defensor Real Madrid 2-1 champion to reach the semifinals of the Champions League for the first time since 2009 in a match in which a key role in two penalty decisions varies.

Arsenal advanced 5-1 in aggregate on Wednesday after a 3-0 victory in the first leg at home in London last week, keeping their chances of winning the competition of the best clubs in Europe for the first time. They will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals.

This time there was no historical return for Madrid. There are no late goals, without high drama, without magic at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

The defending champion and the 15 -time European winner did not reach the last four for the first time since 2020. They are looking for their third title of the Champions League in four seasons.

It is to organize another return on Wednesday, as many times before in recent years in the Champions League, tok a great success when a five -minute var reviewed a penalty for a control over Kylian Mbappe in the game.

Arsenal had received a penalty before after a video review, but Bukayo Saka lost his kick in the spot.

Saka was able to put the arsenal ahead from the inside of the area in the 65th minute, and Madrid could not handle more than an equalizer of Vinicius Junior, a couple of minutes later, after a defensive error by William Saliba.

Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal the victory by scoring three minutes in the stop time.

‘No problem’ if Real Madrid replaces me

This was the twelfth defeat of the Real Madrid season, in contrast with only two in the entire previous campaign.

“It could be that the club decides to change [coach]It could be this year, or the next when my contract expires, there is no problem, “said Royal Chief Coach Carlo Ancelotti to journalists after the game.

“The day I leave here, I can only thank the club.

“It could be tomorrow, in 10 days, in months or a year, but everything I can do will be to thank the club, if my contracts accumulate or not, I don’t care.”

Madrid has been linked to Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, who played for the whites, and the former head of the Liverpool Jurgen Klopp.

Ancelotti said his team was still in the fight for LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup this summer.

“The team gave everything in terms of attitude, but we can do it,” said Ancelotti after the defeat of Arsenal.

“To be honest, Arsenal defended himself very well. It was difficult for us to find space, in terms of intensity, we were better, but it was not enough.”
