Russian missiles hit Ukrainian city of Sumy while Palm Sunday celebrations were underway

The Russian missiles hit the heart of the city of Sumy of the Northeast of Ukraine while people gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday. At least 34 people died in the second large -scale attack in Ukraine to claim civil lives in just over a week.

The authorities said that two ballistic missiles hit around 10:15 am local time. The images of the scene showed black body bags on the side of the road, while more bodies wrapped in aluminum blankets between the rubble were seen.

The dead included two children, said the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in a statement. About 117 people were injured, including 15 children.

“Only dirty scum can act like this: leading the life of common people,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenskyy. In a statement on social networks, he said that the first attack pressed buildings belonging to a city university, while the second exploded above the street level.

In other parts of Ukraine, two women, 62 and 68, and a 48 -year -old man died in Russian attacks against the Kherson region, said local governor Oleksandr Prokudin. Another person was killed during Russian bombing in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, said Governor Vadym Flashkin.

The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Jharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, said that a Russian strike hit one of the city’s kindergarten windows and damaged the facade of the building. No victims were reported.
