The “60 minutes” correspondent, Scott Pelley, commented on the resignation of producer Bill Owens at the end of Sunday’s last episode.

Owens announced his abrupt departure on Tuesday when CBS and Paramount face a lawsuit over President Donald Trump.

“In recent months, it has also become that I would not be allowed to run, since I have always executed it. To make independent decisions based on what was correct for 60 minutes, suitable for the audience,” Owens Wreote. “Then, after having defended this show, and what we represent, from all angles, approximately the time with everything I could, I am moving away so that the show can move forward.”

Pelley spoke on behalf of the team “60 minutes”, lamenting Owens’s game.

“Bill went with CBS News almost 40 years, 26 years at ’60 minutes,” said Pelley. “The covered world, the covered combat, the White House. His was a search to open the minds, not close them. If you have ever worked hard for a boss because you admired them, then you understand what we have enjoyed here.”

He added that Wens resigned “for us and for you” after feeling that he lost “independence” to participate in “honest journalism.”

“Our parent company, Paramount, is trying to complete a fusion,” said Pelley. “The Trump administration must approve it. Paramount assigned to supervise our content in new ways. None of our stories has been blocked, but Bill felt that he lost the independence that required honest journalism.”

He closed: “No one here is happy with that, but when I resigned, Bill demonstrated one thing. He was the right person to lead ’60 minutes’ all the time.”

Fox News Digital contacted CBS and Paramount for comments.

Trump and Paramount are looking for a mediator, feeding the settlement talk in the CBS news demand

Trump is looking for $ 20 billion in a lawsuit against CBS, claiming the electoral interference about its management of an “60 minutes” interview last year with the then vice president Kamala Harris. The president accused CBS of helping his 2024 democratic opponent through the deceptive edition only one week before the presidential elections. The CBS matrix company, Paramount Global, agreed to mediation, indicating that the dispute of its court will result in an agreement.
