The White House criticized the Ivy League institutions for “atrok illegal behavior” as the Trump administration faces Harvard University to install changes in the governance and admission process of the academic institution.

After Harvard refused to comply with a series of Trump administration applications to reform several practices on campus, the Administration revealed on Monday that it would freeze more than $ 2 billion in federal funds for the institution.

When asked why federal funds are available for institutions such as Harvard, the White House Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said a President Donald Trump often mentioned himself.

“It is a question that the president has obviously raised in his discussions, in negotiations not only with Harvard, but also Columbia and many other IVY League institutes,” Leavitt told journalists on Tuesday.

“We have the anti -Semitism task force, which the president promised and delivered,” Leavitt said. “The work groups anti -Semitism throughout the government, representatives of several federal agencies that meet weekly to discuss the question that has just raised. And I think that many Americans wonder why they are the tasting of the tensits of the temptation of temptation, but also allow such illegal behavior to occur.”

However, the president of Harvard University, Alan M. Garber, said in a Monday statement that the Trump administration obtained additional requests that go beyond addressing anti -Semitism on campus, and the institution should not meet because the demands were not site.

Specifically, Garber said that the new requests “direct government regulation of intellectual conditions” in Harvard “, including audit views of students, teachers and staff on campus, and eliminating all divers and inclusion and inclusion.

“It makes it clear that intention is not to work with us to address anti -Semitism in a cooperative and constructive way,” Garber wrote. “We have informed the Administration through our legal advisor that we will not accept its proposed agreement.”

The Trump Department of Justice announced the federal workforce to combat anti -Semitism in February, whose objective is to eradicate bias in campus that have experienced incidents aimed at Jewish students since October 2023.

“Harvard’s statement today reinforces the worrying mentality of rights that is endemic in our most prestigious universities and colleges, that federal investment does not have the responsibility of defending the boys of civil rights,” said the working group. “The interruption of learning that has affected campus in recent years is unacceptable. The harassment of Jewish students is intolerable.

“It’s time for elite universities to take the problem seriously and commit to significant change if they want continuous support from recurrent taxpayers,” the statement said.
