PEN and GHENT COURSE incorporates the British champions

PEN and GHENT (Championships and between British Mountain Running County), Horton-In-Ribblesdale, June 14

Nancy Scott of Aldershot, Farnham and District and Ross Gollan by East Sutherland AC, which represents Scotland North, came out victorious in the mountain race between UKA counties in the PEN and GHent course on Saturday (June 14), Ian Hartman reports.

The race incorporated the UKA mountain racing championship and was also used to select the England team for Snowdon’s international race on July 19.

Settle Harriers organized the event in Horton-in-Rribblesdale, North Yorkshire. There were warnings of heavy thunderstorms the day before, apart from a few heavy showers, one of which coincided with the beginning of the female race at 12:30 pm, the weather was ideal for running. Just the morning on the top of Pen and Ghent had cleared by then.

Nancy Scott won the race between counties and UKA mountain racing championships ahead of Elle Twentyman (Derbantshire/Rugby & Northampton AC).

Paterson Island (Harriers Gala), which did not represent a county, was third, with the fourth place, Eve Pannone (Cumbria/Ambleside AC) taking the bronze medal between counties.

Between counties (woodentops)

Fifteen counties presented complete teams with the Yorkshire team taking the gold medals, a point ahead of cumbria with surrey two points further back in third place.

When the male race began 30 minutes later, the storm had overlooked. Ross Gollan repeated his victory over the main Sub-23, Finlay Grant (Derbantshire/Dark Peak Fell Runners) in the recently championship of Uka Fell & Hill in Scotland, with Oscar Subuh Symmons (Surrey) taking third.

There were 23 male teams. The men of Yorkshire emulated their female team with the five -point victory over Derbantshire and Lancashire with the latter taking silver medals because its final corridor ended a place ahead of Derbantshire’s last counter.
